Down to Defend started as all genuinely good things start:
Just a spark of inspiration in an advocating mother's heart. That spark got the creative wheels to start turning, and from that process came many things- including the birth of a logo.
From the very beginning the concept of our logo held value and meaning. We knew this one design would be the first thing to say, "This is us! Come see what we're doing and why!"
Alicia, the founder of Down to Defend, and Levi's mom knew exactly where to go to have the logo designed. Levi's grandpa (a.k.a. Papa) was quite the artist. It felt like an easy creative niche for him to fill. The core of Down to Defend is deeply rooted in bettering the lives of people with disabilities. Protecting and strengthening them. Equipping and preparing them. A shield design seemed very appropriate in every way. Papa got to work and came up with an image that had "T21" worked right into the design! T21 was important to mention because it stands for Trisomy 21.
Also known as Down's Syndrome, Trisomy 21 is the partial or complete third copy of the 21st chromosome. Typically, we have two copies of this chromosome in our cells, but those with Down syndrome have a third copy!
Although the interior of our logo has the T21 design, our belief in inclusivity stands firm. We want everyone to feel welcome and included in all that we do!
